COLORFUL CANDLE HOLDER

ABOUT THE PROJECT
In the context of Social Design I (Autonomous Design) we were asked to create an object based on the inspiration of 3 personal related items.
I decided for:
• Embroidered Shirt: Guatemalan clothes
• Rave Sunglasses: deformed esthetic of protection
• Sparkle Device: basic 2 piece tool

Sense

• handmade tool to exit reality: escapism
• change of perception in a quality safe space: mood change

Material
I was looking for a see-through, colourable and formable material: Glass, which is also sustainable and has a long tradition of working techniques.
To work in the frame of my abilities in times of COVID-19 I had to shift this original idea of a glass production into modelling my vision with the shown materials.

Construction
The object is inspired by natural forms and manual handwork by the `Embroidered Shirt´. It has its bright color and mirror effect from the `Rave Sunglasses´. And the simple usage of the flame and the following shadow effect are reminiscent of the two piece tool of the `Space Device´.
The ``klick in´´system of the colored elements allows to change these pieces and to individualize the color preference.
`Colourful Candle Holder´ is constructed on the scale 1:1.

Effect
In preparation I experimented with colours and light and looked deeper into their psychological effects:
Red: passion and energy
Orange: enthusiasm and emotion
Yellow: happiness and optimism
Green: harmony and health
Blue: trust and loyalty
Purple: spirituality and imagination
I chose to use all primary (red-yellow-blue) and secondary (orange-green-purple) colours which represent the whole spectrum of light. The pieces are overlapping and new colours appear - the arrangement looks different from every angle.

LIGHT ESCAPISM

ABOUT THE OBJECT
The ``Colorful Candle Holder´´ illustrates escapism through the spectrum of light. Light enables us to see the world, and colorful light allows to change the perception. As the candle lights, the central dancing flame creates colorful shadows which are always in movement. The colours joyfully brighten up the space.
